Hi

I have recently got a 464 for use in my bedroom/studio.
I've been scrathing my barnet a lot and trying different wirings to get what I desire, but am failing miserably!

I have a computer/sequencer setup with 2ins (1 stereo) and 8 outs (4 stereo).

What I would like to ideally do is this:

Be able to plug a guitar (plus other instruments)into the 464, add effects from outboard unit(s)and send this output to the PC.

I would also like to have a monitor(for my audio listening) stereo out from my PC to 464 and also have the 3 other stereo outs from PC to be routed into 464, merged and sent back to PC.

Phew!

Please excuse my english, i'm ill and thinking is makin my head ache!

Any help here would be much appreciated as I can return the 464 if it is unable to work in the manner I need.

Thanks for reading this post.

READ THE MANUAL. I am not sure what the problem is! I assume you are using a low cost soundcard or computer interface you don't say (You need some form of AD/DA converter which is part of the soundcard or interface) You need a hiZ (impedence) input for an electric guitar to sound right. You have 6 stereo channels on the 464 so use LINE inputs on four of these from you soundcard. You control which channels are being monitored fader up or down and monitor section cue. Connect 464 master out to soundcard in. You will need to watch the levels as a cheap interface will not cope with hot (high) pro levels and you will simply overload the interface therefore use the Channel gain to reduce output level. If using acoustic guitar and microphone(s) check to see whether the mics needs phantom power and connect mic(s) to (one or more of the four monochannels. Use quality cables from the likes of Van Damme or Sommer. Invest in good quality monitors and a reasonable quality interface such as RME fireface MOTU 828 mk3, Metric Halo 2882 or Apogee Ensemble (last two mac only) as funds permit and subscribe to Sound on Sound magazine; search their website for info as 9 mth and older articles freely available!
